Irish wheaten bread

Soda bread is a quick and easy loaf that tastes even better when slathered in butter.

Makes one small loaf

325g coarse wheat flour 125g plain white flour 1 tsp salt 8g baking soda 450ml buttermilk

1 Preheat your oven to 200C/Fan 180C/Gas 6. In a large bowl, mix the flours, salt and soda, then add the buttermilk and stir gently to make a loose dough that isn’t over mixed.

2 Gently knead the dough on a floured work surface, then place in a greased loaf tin and bake for 35-40 mins.
