Writer and gardener Alice Whitehead

was born with green fingers, inheriting an affinity for allotment life from her dad and grandfather. Over the last 30 years, she’s nurtured everything from houseplants in a gloomy stairwell to tiny front garden veg patches and helped run a school garden club.
