What we did
We headed out to Farleys House & Gallery in Chiddingly, the former home of photographer
Lee Miller and Surrealist artist Roland Penrose. The house is now a museum and archive celebrating the lives and work of its former residents as well as a collection of contemporary art by artist friends such as Pablo Picasso, Man Ray, Max Ernst and Joan Miró. We took advantage of the good weather and wandered around the sculpture garden that surrounds the house, where a permanent collection of works chosen by Miller and Penrose are on display alongside pieces by contemporary guest sculptors. You’re encouraged to bring a picnic, but we decided to take advantage of the refreshments on offer – the lemon drizzle cake comes very highly recommended.
