My day in cups of tea
We asked online vintage seller Alana Cherrie Pavy to tell us all about her day in cuppas – and cappuccinos...
Morning! How early do you get the first cuppa in? The minute my husband leaves to take our kids to nursery I exhale and make a cappuccino in a vintage mug. I’ve turned the spare room of our new house into a studio – so the commute is just across the landing!
Tell us a bit about your work.
I run an online store, selling vintage and contemporary homewares. After being made redundant, I decided to work for myself and do something I love. In the mornings, I take photos of ‘new’ pieces or I might set out early on a sourcing mission. I love it when people buy something from me and it gets a new lease of life. Elevenses – how particular are you? I’ll drink tea or coffee however it’s made and I’ll take anything sweet, cake or biscuit, I’m not fussy.
We hear you have a favourite mug, though…
It’s a Mickey Mouse and Pluto one. I had the same mug as a child until it got broken. About 20 years later, I was working in a community centre in Brighton and spotted it. I almost cried! The staff kindly insisted I keep it.
It’s getting on for lunch. What’s on the menu?
It’s usually soup, but on Fridays I order a scallop and bacon bap from Tottenham eaterie, Wine & Rind. I eat with my husband, Yoann, who also works from home. Back to work. What’s on the cards for the afternoon? Afternoons are spent packing orders and doing finance or admin. I'll post upcoming pieces on Instagram, too. I also try to fit in an hour to work on a craft project – at the moment I’m making curtains for my front door. Sounds good! How else do you like to switch off?
I enjoy podcasts, such as Black Gals Livin', or I look through interior, art and design books for inspiration. What are you looking forward to post-pandemic? Having friends over for a huge housewarming rave.
