SURE FOOTED INSPIRATION
WHEN SANDY WALLIS FAILED TO FIND ADEQUATE FOOTWEAR FOR HER LONG CORNISH DOG WALKS, SHE DEVELOPED HER OWN
When Sandy Wallis wanted to take her beloved Rhodesian Ridgeback, Roscoe, for a walk, there was one hurdle. Living in Perranporth, Cornwall, she had rugged countryside and endless beaches on her doorstep, however she struggled to find footwear suitable to take on the challenging Cornish landscape.
Not ready to hang up the dog lead in defeat, Sandy was determined to find boots that were durable, comfortable and waterproof.
“We walk in all weathers,” says Sandy, “but I couldn’t find a pair of boots that were comfy and would keep my feet warm and dry. Hiking boots didn’t cope with deep, muddy puddles and wellies aren’t really suitable for a five mile hike.”
It was only when she found an old pair of ‘riggers’ – safety boots for North Sea Oil riggers – that Sandy had her light-bulb moment. “They were amazing. I thought it would be good to design my own ‘off rig’ version that were lighter, with an excellent hiking sole.”
And so Trailback was born, a stylish, yet practical boot for men and women in sizes 3-13 with some half sizes available. Trailback has also introduced a luxury range of merino-blend hiking socks and merino wool base layers.
Now, come rain or shine, Sandy can stay dry and comfortable while keeping up with the Cornish landscape. Roscoe, meanwhile, has secured his place in Trailback forever, as his sleek and distinctive silhouette features as the logo on all products and packaging.
