IDENTIFIER Chinese odiac sign
It’s Chinese New Year on 1 February, and we’re entering the Year of the Tiger. Our handy guide can help you distinguish your rats from your roosters from your rabbits…
Rat
Clever, and a bit cunning. Legend says it rode the Ox’s back for most of the ‘Great Race’ (which determined the order of the signs) to win first.
Rabbit
Sweet and kind, it’s no wonder rabbits tend to be popular. But they don’t just rabbit on – they’re also known for being good listeners.
Horse
You’ll need to saddle up if you want to spend some time with a horse. Warm hearted but freespirited, it’s a life on the open road for them.
Rooster
Hard-working and honest, they’re also known as the romantics of the zodiacs. Though they won’t stop crowing about it in the morning.
Ox
Want a job done? Like the Rat, get on board the Ox. Known for being hardworking and persistent. But, dare we say, a little stubborn?
Dragon
Strong, spirited, successful. Those Dragon babies are so valued that birth rates can peak in their years: up by 5% in Hong Kong in 2020.
Goat
In the Chinese Zodiac, you really do want to get on someone’s goat. They’re considered to be creative, calm and caring.
Dog
Those born in dog years share attributes with our favourite canines: loyal, brave, full of energy and – is that a stick? – easily distractible…
Tiger
Fearless, fun and born leaders. Let’s hope their reputation for good luck applies this year ( but not their one for getting in trouble).
Snake
Doesn’t need a charmer – they already have that quality. Thinks on the hoof, too – it wrapped around the Horse’s leg for the Great Race.
Monkey
You want a monkey around if you need a problem solved – or to be entertained. Keep them busy or they swing off the ceiling.
Pig
Known for their good temper, good manners and good fortune, too – you’d really want to be as happy as a pig in muck.
