MRS BROWN’S BOYS is set to make a staggering £22 million in ticket sales on its current tour.

But despite the smashhit comedy’s phenomenal success, when it comes to decorating her house the millionaire matriarch shops at The Barras! Last night, the cast of the BBC comedy performed the last of six sold-out shows of For The Love Of Mrs Brown at the SECC in Glasgow.

By the end of their 2013 UK tour the Irish clan will have played to nearly 640,000 people.

With an average entry price of £ 35, that’s an incredible £22 million in ticket sales.

Despite that huge sum, the show’s set was decorated with wallpaper and carpets bought from the notorious market in the East End of Glasgow.

Brendan O’Carroll, who plays the foulmouthed Irish mammy, commissioned The Pavilion Theatre to build the new stage set.

The hit show got its big break in The Pavilion.

Theatre manager Iain Gordon explained: “When they first came over here they were using a rickety old set. We’ve built the last three stage sets for them.

“This one has a new floor and new carpets, from The Barras. I’m sure it’s where Mrs Brown would do her shopping if she lived in Glasgow!

“There’s a wallpaper shop at The Barras that I use because it sells the most awful wallpaper.

“I was standing in the queue with rolls of hideous wallpaper — I said to the store owner that I’d been looking for something tasteless and this was perfect.

“When I turned round the woman behind me was buying the same paper!”

Mrs Brown’s stage house took three weeks to build. Once finished, the set was dismantled and flat-packed so it could be transported to venues.
