Criticism of Voice focus on Meat Loaf

- By Bill Gibb bgibb@sundaypost.com

THE VOICE contestant Lorraine Crosby slammed the show last night as “just as bad as The X Factor”.

Newcastle singer Lorraine was the vocalist no one realised was on Meat Loaf’s smash hit I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That).

But she says the BBC talent show promised to show her grafting away in clubs and touring the country.

Instead, viewers only saw the video from the No. 1 hit and references to it.

“I asked them to show how hard I work. I didn’t tell them about Meat Loaf at first,” said 52-year-old Lorraine.

“I got through every audition, but as soon as I mentioned Meat Loaf, that’s all they focused on.

“I wanted it to be about my voice, not my story — it’s just as bad as The X Factor.”

Lorraine, who was at a gig in the Lake District as the show went out, also claimed a race discussion was edited out.

“There was a massive argument about me sounding like a black woman,” she insisted.

A spokesperson for the show said: “Lorraine was very happy with her involvement at the time of filming and glad of the chance to tell her story.

“All artists who audition are portrayed fairly and accurately, and when Lorraine gave this interview to The Sunday Post she had not even seen the programme.”

Meanwhile, following Kavana’s failure last week, Kym Mazelle became the latest star to fail to get the coaches’ chairs turning.

But there were plenty of successes — including 34- year- old Nadeem Leigh from Stevenage, who was picked by Danny O’Donoghue.

The show was up against the final Saturday Night Takeaway last night, but all eyes will be on how it fares against Britain’s Got Talent next week. The two shows will be virtually head-to-head, unlike last year.

“Our opening show is just over an-hour-and-a-half and we want BGT to be in a slot where all the family can watch,” insisted an ITV source.
