Is my annoying habit

-

MY wife is driven mad when I crack my knuckles and fingers – she tells me that I’ll give myself arthritis. I say this isn’t true. Who’s right?

“Cracking” the joints of the fingers is not known to lead to arthritis – what you are hearing is a process known as cavitation in which a partial vacuum is created in the joint itself. That said, there’s probably no good reason why people would crack their joints. Perhaps they are best left alone. I OFTEN wake up to feel my heart fluttering, but I’m not in any pain anywhere.

Unusual palpitations are best examined by your doctor. If you are a young person then palpitations are more likely to be benign. I would advise a chat with your family doctor. I EXPERIENCED some d ro o p i n g i n my eyelid recently. Would you recommend surgery to fix it? Is it worth it?

S o m e t i m e s, surgery is offered for drooping of the eyelids but it is important to establish the cause before doing so. Surgery is usually offered if vision is being obstructed rather than simply as a cosmetic procedure. I HAVE developed a wart on my face. I don’t want to bother the doctor – can I use a cream from the chemist to get rid of it?

I think that you would be wise to consult your doctor for two reasons. The first is that everything that looks like a wart is not necessarily just a wart.

Secondly you want as good a cosmetic result as possible. Applying corrosive substances to the face may not achieve this. I’VE been getting a numbness and tingling in my elbow and fingers on my left arm. I’ve been playing my guitar for hours a day recently as it’s my job – is this to blame?

It could possibly be to blame. You are describing what might be carpal tunnel syndrome in the left arm. This condition is caused by pressure on a nerve in the arm and this pressure may be caused by repeated
