- Tipping Point: Lucky Stars Live At Edinburgh Castle

BBC2, 1.10pm

Sylvia Syms narrates this look back on the television appearances of silver screen legend Peter O’Toole – who died in December aged 81 – using material from the BBC archive to reveal the highlights and milestones of his distinguished career. Prior to Peter’s first film release, a small role in Kidnapped in 1960, the pair appeared together on stage in The Holiday at the King’s Theatre, Glasgow.

ITV, 7.30pm

I tuned into Good Morning Britain on Thursday – well, the TV was left on ITV after the World Cup semi-final the night before – and noticed that Ben Shephard has got bags under his eyes after a couple of months back on early morning television. If he needs tips on how to stay so youthful-looking, perhaps he could ask Lorraine Kelly, who is one of the celebrity guests on this week’s Tipping Point. Also hoping to win £20,000 for charity are cricketer Phil Tufnell and Corrie’s Ryan Thomas.

BBC1, 8.30pm

Ahead of Wednesday’s opening ceremony for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Edinburgh is doing its best to steal some of the limelight with this spectacular live concert in the shadow of one of the country’s most iconic landmarks. Presented by The One Show’s Alex Jones (could a Scot not be found?), a wide range of international acts will be performing, including Jessie J, Kaiser Chiefs, Smokey Robinson, Culture Club, Katherine Jenkins, Alfie Boe, Il Divo and that woman Paloma Faith again.

BBC Radio 2, Wednesday, 10pm

As Glasgow prepares to host the 20th Commonwealth Games, Hardeep Singh Kohli presents the first in a three-part series exploring Scotland and its links to the Commonwealth. He warms up with a look at the country’s sporting heroes from the amateur to the elite. Olympian Katherine Grainger, rugby legend Gavin Hastings and record-breaking cyclist Mark Beaumont share their hopes for the Games.
