Punyed predicts a goal-fest

PABLO PUNYED thinks there will be plenty of goals when Motherwell play in Iceland this week.

The American midfielder was part of the Stjarnan team that drew 2-2 at Fir Park on Thursday night.

There could have been many more goals though, and the 24-year-old says that won’t change against Motherwell, despite the fact that a 0-0 draw would see them progress to the third round of Europa League qualifying.

He said: “We know we’ll get chances because they’re still in pre-season and their legs will get heavy towards the end of games.

“We’re well into our season and we are still unbeaten in the League, and we’re really confident. We like to play open, attacking football – that’s our style.

“So I think it will be a similar type of game in Iceland. They have to come and score.

“That will leave spaces for us and hopefully we can hit them on the break. We’ve been trying to focus more on football than our famous goal celebrations recently.

“But maybe we’ll come up with a new one for the second leg. However, I wouldn’t say we’re in the driving seat.

“They’ve shown they can score against us, and we’ll need to make sure we don’t concede at home.”

Getting that dramatic draw against the side that finished second in last season’s Premiership was a massive achievement for the Icelanders.

They are a team hungry for success, and Pablo is one of many looking to progress his career.

He added: “I hope this tie against Motherwell can be a big stage for our players.

“This is the biggest match some of players have ever been involved in. This can be a platform for us.”
