Kid Cadogan stakes a claim

-

DUNDEE gaffer Paul Ha r t l ey wat c h e d trialist Kieron Cadogan hit a stunner – then revealed he’s considering handing him a deal with the Dark Blues.

Former Cr ystal Palace kid Cadogan equalised for the newlook Dens Park outfit midway through the first- half in his quest to land a permanent contract with the Premiership new boys.

The 23- year- old has impressed in Dundee’s three pre- season games so far and helped them to a hard- fought win over the spirited Shrimps, sealed with other goals from Gary Harkins, Martin Boyle and Peter MacDonald.

And Hartley, who has already made 10 summer signings ahead of their top-flight return, admitted afterwards the flying winger has left him with plenty to think about.

He said: “Kieron did well and scored a really good goal.

“It was a great touch and a good finish so he has given us some food for thought.

“We’ll see what happens after this and speak over the weekend.

“I was pleased with the overall team performance. I feel we’re getting stronger with every game.

“Morecambe were strong and gave us a good test which I’m glad we’ve come through.”

Dundee were forced to come from behind as it was their League Two hosts who got off to a flying start when striker Padraig Amond gave them a second- minute lead, firing home from Shaun Beeley’s long ball forward.

However, they levelled after 25 minutes when Iain Davidson’s raking pass picked out the on-rushing Cadogan wide on the right, and he took a touch to steady himself before rifling home an unstoppable 25-yard efford beyond the reach of home keeper Andreas Arestidou and low into the far corner.

Then, after 39 minutes, Harkins put the Taysiders in front.

The ex- St Mirren and Kilmarnock midfielder went on a mazy run before calmly finishing from close-range.

Dundee made barrage of changes in the second- half, but after 65 minutes Letheren pulled off a wonder save from substitute Jack Sampson’s header after Laurence Wilson’s inch- perfect cross.

But Morecambe equalised after 67 minutes whenWilson’s cross was met by substitute Ryan Edwards, whose header looped over Letheren and into the top corner.

Dundee hit back, though, in 71 minutes, when sub Simon Ferry released Boyle, who showed a clean pair of heels to finish from 10 yards.

And, with virtually the last kick of the game, MacDonald rounded things off with a low finish from Paul McGinn’s cut-back.
