Rangers Board’s peace offering

- By Thomas Jordan sport@sundaypost.com

RANGERS are hoping to strike a peace deal with their fans by safeguarding Ibrox Stadium.

Supporters have been demanding the current Board provide paperwork to confirm their home since 1899 is not at risk.

There have been concerns the Stadium could be used as security against future borrowing.

But there has been progress following fresh discussions at Boardroom level, with the Board hoping confirmation over Ibrox will lead to a surge in season ticket sales.

RANGERS may be on the verge of finally providing supporters with security over Ibrox Stadium.

Talks have taken place over the past week which could result in an agreement being rubber- stamped before the start of the season.

The Ibrox Board are hoping to reach an agreement to provide supporters with the paperwork that safeguards the Stadium for the remainder of the season.

Supporters have refused to renew season- tickets until they receive assurances Ibrox will not be used as security against any future borrowing.

It’s understood, however, Murray Park will not be i ncluded in any deal, although the Board insist they have no plans to sell the training complex in Milngavie.

There are fears Ibrox could be used to help generate financial assistance to the crisis-hit club as they struggle to cope with the lack of funds they originally anticipated via the sale of season tickets.

Fe we r than 20,000 supporters are thought to have renewed their tickets, but the Board are hopeful fans will snap up tickets again if they offer to protect the Stadium.

The news comes after a 3000- strong crowd of supporters, organised by the Sons of Struth, marched to Ibrox yesterday to protest against the Board, and demand again that the ground that has been their home since 1899 be safeguarded.

Former players Nacho Novo and John Brown joined supporters in a protest march, and Novo addressed the crowd outside the Main Door of Ibrox.

The Spaniard said: “This club means everything to me, and you mean everything to me.

“Thank you all for coming out and staying united as we try to safeguard the club we all love.

“I’m from Spain, but this is where my heart is and we have to stay together to make sure this place we love stays part of Rangers.

“This isn’t about the Sons of Struth. This is about every supporter who wants to see the club prospering.

“This is a special club and Ibrox is a special place.”
