Biton very keen to impress

- By Danny Stewart sport@sundaypost.com

NIR BITON last night shrugged off Celtic’s loss to St Pauli, their first of the new campaign.

In sweltering condition in Hamburg that saw water breaks taken in both halves, the Hoops went down 1-0 to the German second tier outfit.

“It was a good game for us to prepare ourselves for the new season,” said the Israeli.

“We played with a second team, tried to show the coaches our ability and tried to do the best.

“I think there were good things and bad things in the game and I’m sure the staff saw it.

“They will work with us on all of those things.

“Overall, it was a training match for us to prepare our bodies for the season ahead.”

And, hopefully, put themselves in contention for a call up to the Champions League qualification campaign.

“I tried to show what could I do but I was injured for three months and it was quite a bad injury,” said Biton.

“I am not 100% and I don’t know when I will be.

“I work hard in training and try to get back to the condition I was in before the injury.

“This will not be easy but I will try and do it. I feel the place that I got the injury is not 100% strong.

“But I am enjoying myself. The new manager is good with us all.

“He talks with everyone and gives a lot of confidence to players. Some players just need confidence – it can be good for us.”
