Early Marsh counter wins it for Bully Wee

-

The goal came on 15 minutes when Mark McLaughlin wriggled free to cut the ball back for Marsh to send a low shot home.

The Bully Wee almost doubled their lead soon after when Scott Linton’s header was only partially saved by Mark Hurst and Matthew Cooper darted back to clear on the goal-line.

Elgin took charge as the first half drew to a close and it looked like Brian Cameron had turned in a Dylan Easton cross but the ball was cleared.

The Borough Briggs outfit thought they had levelled 12 minutes from time when Stevie Ross drilled home but referee Alan Newlands had just blown for a penalty after Cameron had been flattened by Chris Smith and ruled the strike out.

Waters produced a great diving save to deny Craig Gunn from the spot, with the shot- stopper making another outstanding save two minutes later when he kept out a close-range Ross effort.

EAST FIFE 4 ANNAN ATHLETIC 2

EAST FIFE absolutely flew out of the traps and were two goals up within the space of six minutes as the shellshocked visitors offered little resistance.

Jamie Insall broke the deadlock when he nodded home a Kyle Wilkie effort.

Annan had no time to regroup as the Fifers went straight off in search of No 2.

It arrived when Jonathan Page smashed home a loose ball from eight yards.

The visitors were all at sea and the Fifers were attacking at will.

Kevin Smith was unlucky not to add a third when he raced in on goal, only for his Blair Currie to block his drive.

Agonisingly, Kyle Wilkie sent the rebound over the bar.

Annan got to the break just the two goals down and regrouped.

They started the second 45 as well as the Fifers had the first and Weatherston reduced the deficit with a fine free-kick.

Any hopes the home side harboured of a comeback were shortlived as Page doubled his tally with a header.

The win was wrapped up for Gary Naysmith’s outfit when Insall added a fourth, despite Smart Osadolor netting a second for Annan.

BERWICK 1 STIRLING ALBION 0

IN the first minute, leading Berwick striker Blair Henderson forced the ball home from close range.

On 37 minutes, Finn Graham forced a way though in the box but failed to find the net from close range.

On 61 minutes, Michael McKenna had the ball in the net but was ruled out for offside.

In injury time, Brian Martin was then sent off for hand ball on the line. However, Stirling’s Sean Dickson ballooned the penalty-kick over the bar.

ARBROATH 3 EAST STIRLING 0

ARBROATH dominated from the off at Gayfield in Dick Campbell’s first game in charge.

Craig Wilson powered a header home from Jordan Lowdon’s 11th- minute free-kick to make it 1-0.

Arbroath keeper Allan Fleming then made a string of saves to keep out Thomas Orr and Andrew Russell.

Mark Whatley pounced to blast home on 69 minutes after Kane Hester hit the post.

Then Mark Williams converted a cross for No 3.

MONTROSE 1 QUEEN’S PARK 1

QUEEN’S PARK opened the scoring in 16 minutes when Paul Woods cut in from the left and drilled the ball home.

The visitors looked for more and three chances fell to Chris Duggan but he missed them all.

Two minutes from half- time, Sean Burns had a curler tipped over by home keeper Jordan Millar.

Montrose levelled two minutes into the second half. They were awarded a free- kick 25 yards out and Gary Fraser curled in a beauty off the post.
