Take aim for success at Windsor

- By reg Moore SELECTIONS

HUGO PALMER should get punters off to a winning start at Windsor this afternoon, when Star Archer bids to build on an excellent debut second at York.

The Champs Elysees colt was second two weeks ago, beaten half-a-length by Kevin Ryan’s Tommy Taylor, who has an entry in next month’s Group 2 Champagne Stakes.

He looked all over like he wanted a mile in the sevenfurlong York event, after the winner led at halfway and the selection lacked the toe to go with him at the trip.

There doesn’t look to be anything with the potential of Tommy Taylor in today’s heat. Although it would be wise to keep an eye on Andrew Balding’s Genetics in the market.

Charles Hills will be justified in expecting Iona Island to take a big step forward from her seasonal debut third at Newmarket last week.

The Dutch Art filly was held up before making eye-catching headway three out, only to find rustiness depriving her of a winning, finishing kick.

She ran really well on debut, again at Newmarket last July, in a maiden that has worked out well and a mark of 65 this afternoon looks tempting.

Paling was just a head away from his third victory at Sandown last month and looks capable of getting back in front for Henry Candy at Leicester.

That looked a pretty decent race in it’s class and he just failed by a head to peg back the in-form Goodwood Mirage and is only raised 2lb.
