CIVIL SERVICE STROLLERS beat GRETNA 2008 4-0 to get off the mark in their first Lowland League season. Bradley Dixon opened in the 17th minute and Stephen Froud two in four minutes. Iain Ballantyne hit No 4 with seven minutes left.

EAST KILBRIDE blasted SELKIRK 6-0 to show what’s ahead. Sean Winter, Joao Victoria (2), Fabio Cauano, Ross McNeill and Gavin Millar netted.

DALBEATTIE STAR beat CUMBERNAUL­D COLTS 2-0 thanks to two goals in the first 28 minutes from Tommy Muir. Colts ended the game with nine men after Drew Ramsay and Sean Louis Brown saw red.

EAST STIRLINGSH­IRE opened their Lowland League programme with a 2-2 draw against VALE OF LEITHEN. Andy Grant put Shire ahead in 22 minutes but Keith McLeod cancelled that out in 38 minutes. Blair Atkinson put Vale into the lead in the 51st minute but Christophe­r Faulds levelled soon after.

GALA FAIRYDEAN ROVERS fought back for a 1-1 draw against STIRLING UNI after the Scholars went ahead with a Chris Geddes goal. The Fairies levelled in 49 minutes with a Michael Tuhoy own goal.

New side HAWICK ROYAL ALBERT lost 3-2 to WHITEHILL WELFARE. Jon McInally levelled the scores after Welfare went ahead with a John Williams goal in 14 minutes. Welfare went 2-1 up as Scott Moffat shot home but Josh Morris levelled once more before Dale O’Hara’s winner in 85 minutes.

PRESTON ATHLETIC drew 1-1 with BSC GLASGOW. Greg Douglas put the Hammers ahead in 47 minutes, with Peter Jones equalising for BSC soon after.

SPARTANS were held to a 1-1 draw by EDINBURGH UNI. Nathan Evans put Edinburgh ahead in 37 minutes but Dean Horribine levelled in 63 minutes.
