NHS bosses are preparing plans to end the scandal of cataract operations being rationed to save money.

They will urge GP surgeries to offer the life-changing procedure to ease the soaring demand on hospital clinics.

Dr David Geddes, head of primary care commission­ing for NHS England, plans to issue new guidelines next year.
