Sort out the confusing bin policies

-

IT is right that we all attempt to recycle as much rubbish as possible, but there is too much stick and not enough carrot being used.

The “bin police” should work with us.

The public feels like they are being punished already with reduced services and extra costs in some areas.

These feelings are magnified when there are further penalties for small mistakes.

Good communication and clear explanations should be the put in place, not fines handed down by grim-faced officials in uniforms.

They should appreciate this can be frightening.

The public should be offered incentives.

What rewards are on offer for a street that performs well or for people who meet recycling targets?

Whatever measures are put in place, we shouldn’t be made to feel like criminals for putting a tin in the wrong colour of bin.

It doesn’t help that every council area seems to have a different policy – different colours of bins, different amounts of bins, different collection days.

This should be simplified, logically thought out and – most importantly – properly explained.

We want to help the nation be green.

Let’s work together.
