Rock while you walk in this town
FROM a young age we all have road safety rules drummed into us.
We’re taught to look both ways and walk carefully across the road.
In a town in Sweden, however, the council is actively encouraging pedestrians to make their way across the road in a less conventional manner.
A series of new street signs suggests people skip, hop or play air guitar as they cross the roads in Haparanda.
The idea came from local resident Nadja Lukin, who wrote to the council and said the town always dared to try something new.
Officials agreed and began putting up the signs, which have helped bring business to the once rundown area.
The woman behind the project says the most important impact of the signs has been making people smile – but hopefully they continue to look both ways first!
