Mbemba settomove?

NEWCASTLE UNITED centre-back Chancel Mbemba is a £7million target for Valencia.

The Spanish big guns have their sights on the DR Congo defender, who only joined Toon last summer in an £8m move from Belgian giants Anderlecht.

Valencia were interested then in Mbemba, 22, and have been re-alerted after Magpies boss Rafa Benitez – formerly in charge of the La Liga club – signed central defenders Grant Hanley and Ciaran Clark.

Scotland’s Hanley, 24, cost £5.5m from Blackburn and Republic of Ireland international Clark, 26, was a £5m capture from Aston Villa who, like Newcastle, were relegated last season.

With Benitez having handed the captain’s armband to former Nottingham Forest man Jamaal Lascelles, 22, that leaves Mbemba, Hanley and Clark battling for the other slot in the middle of defence.
