Alloa blow Blues away in first half

- STRANRAER 2 ALLOA 5

RAMPANT Alloa thumped hapless Stranraer to make it seven wins out of seven.

The Blues’ Craig Malcolm fired home from close range early on but the lead was short-lived as the visitors levelled just after the quarter-hour mark as Greig Spence fired through Cameron Belford’s legs from a tight angle.

Alloa were in front soon after when the goalkeeper did well to save from Spence but Iain Flannigan thumped in the rebound from 18 yards.

After Jordan Kirkpatrick scored with a low effort from 25 yards, Spence notched his second for the Wasps when he slid home a cross.

Kirkpatrick grabbed his second when he finished from 10 yards.

Malcolm pulled one back after the break for Stranraer but Alloa never looked threatened.

ALBION ROVERS 0 BRECHIN 2

ALBION had goalkeeper Ross Stewart to thank for keeping them level in the early stages.

But Ryan Wallace should have put the home side in front at the other end but could not convert in front of goal.

Alan Trouten put Brechin in front from the penalty spot – his fourth goal of the season – after Kyle Turnbull was penalised for a challenge on Chris O’Neil.

Brechin moved two goals in front early in the second half when Andy Jackson scored after good work from Ally Love.

Albion shouted for a penalty midway through the second half when the ball seemed to strike a Brechin hand.

Ryan Wallace came close in the final stages when his overheadkick was saved by Smith, then the keeper prevented a Paul Willis free-kick finding the top corner.

PETERHEAD 0 EAST FIFE 3

THE visitors took the lead after five minutes. A Mark Lamont corner from the left went to the unmarked Jason Kerr, who leapt unchallenged to bullet a header firmly past the keeper and into the back of the net.

The home side nearly equalised on the quarter-hour when Jamie Redman powered a header goalward but it was cleared off the line.

In first-half added time, the visitors doubled their lead.

After another Lamont corner from the left, another badlydefended header found the net, this time from Kevin Smith as he nodded home.

On 66 minutes, it was 3-0 when a free-kick on the left was driven through a ruck of players by Mark Lamont and the ball ended up in the net.

STENHOUSEMUIR 1 QUEENS PK 2

STENHOUSEMUIR were unlucky not to go ahead in the first minute when Alan Cook’s blistering shot from the edge of the box fizzed inches over.

The deadlock was broken in 33 minutes when Stephen Stirling blasted into the top right corner from the edge of the box.

Queen’s Park’s Darren Miller tested Colin McCabe early in the second half and an Adam Cummings’ header hit the bar.

Parity was restored in the 73rd minute as the home back four were all over the place and, when Vinnie Berry brought down Ryan McGeever in the box, Miller fired the penalty high into the net.

Right on time, the Hampden side secured victory when sub Josh Watt hit down into the ground at the back post and the ball bounced over McCabe to roll in.

AIRDRIEONIANS 2 LIVINGSTON 4

LIVINGSTON’S opener came in 15 minutes when Scott Pittman’s shot was saved by home keeper Rohan Ferguson and Danny Mullen followed up to the net.

No 2 for Livi came when Liam Buchanan was at the back post top finish off a move.

In 53 minutes, Andy Ryan raced into the box to bury the ball past goalkeeper Liam Kelly to pull one back.

In 59 minutes, Mike Miller put the ball across the face of goal and debutant Daniel Boateng turned it into the net for 3-1.

In 65 minutes, an Adam Brown free-kick for Airdrie was headed on by Boateng and the alert Ryan fired an angled shot low into the net.

In stoppage time, the visitors secured the points when Danny Mullen set up Josh Mulllin.
