11 million watched Laura’s win

-

CYCLING’S golden couple Laura Trott and Jason Kenny helped boost ratings for the BBC’s coverage of the Rio Olympics.

More than 11 million watched BBC One as Trott received her gold medal for the omnium.

And 11.1m people tuned in an hour later, despite it being around 11pm UK time, as Kenny, Trott’s fiance, won the men’s keirin.

An average of 10.4m watched gymnast Max Whitlock receive his second gold medal and an incredible 3.3m stayed up into the small hours to watch Andy Murray win the men’s tennis final.

And Tom Daley and Dan Goodfellow’s synchronised diving bronze drew a peak UK audience of 7.7 million to BBC1.

Ratings for the Rio Olympics have been lower than London 2012, however, due to the time difference between the UK and Brazil.
