Oor Wullie to help sick kids

-

ANYONE visiting Dundee will have come across the fantastic Oor Wullie statues strewn across the city.

Lots of families in particular have enjoyed bagging every one of the 55 Oor Wullies on a really fun bucket trail and having their photos taken with them.

My favourites include Dundee United Wullie and the one dedicated to David Bowie, but they are all really brilliant.

The Oor Wullies will be up for auction next month – so now there’s a chance to own one and raise money for kids.

I know that Dundee’s lifeboat crew are desperate to hang on to the Lifesaver Wullie statue in Broughty Ferry.

They have been looking after the statue, nicknamed Stormy Stan.

He’s become part of the family, especially as the statue also has RIP Mona etched on Wullie’s famous bucket.

This was to honour the eight-man Broughty Ferry lifeboat crew who all lost their lives in 1958 during a rescue attempt when their boat Mona capsized.

It’s become so important to the lifeboat crew that they have set up a justgiving page to try to raise enough money to ensure Stormy Stan stays put.

There’s a bid from a group in Arbroath but I think he has to remain in Broughty Ferry. The statues will be auctioned on September 13 and the proceeds will go to the Archie Foundation’s Tayside Children’s Hospital Appeal.
