Cathy was happier than champ Henrik!

-

CATHY LOCK knows a thing or two about golf. Even at the grand age of 80, she puts on a line at the bookies every so often.

Cathy’s knowledge paid off during The Open. She had £1 each way on Swede Henrik Stenson at 200-1 and another quid each way on Phil Mickelson. Those two finished first and second at Royal Troon in July.

Cathy, of Wallsend, Tyne & Weir, was over the moon. She reckoned she had won £274.

But when she went to collect her winnings at her local William Hill, it said it had made an error on her betting slip and Stenson shouldn’t have been quoted at 200-1.

Cathy reckoned the firm should honour what its employee put on her betting slip. But Willie Hills would only offer £50, what it should pay according to its displayed odds. Cathy wrote to Raw Deal. We thought we could put a fiver on ourselves sorting this out and, right enough, the betting firm said: “The 200-1 we offered on Henrik was an incorrect price, the result of a human error, which is something we try to avoid but it does occasionally happen.

“We have hopefully reached a resolution by offering to pay the bet in full as it appears on the slip and not in our system.

“We look at cases individually and always try to resolve them in the best possible way.”

Cathy was told to take her slip back to the shop and William Hill would pay the full £274.

Cathy was ecstatic. She said: “Thank you very, very much, Raw Deal. This is like winning the Lottery! What a wonderfully unexpected result.” Raw Deal is always a good bet.
