Ali’s up for England’s tour of Bangladesh

MOEEN ALI has become the first England player to promise unequivocally he will be on the plane to Bangladesh at the end of this month.

Moeen’s assurance, on the eve of England’s bid for an historic 5-0 series whitewash over Pakistan, follows a similar pledge from assistant coach Paul Farbrace and an acknowledgement from team-mate Jonny Bairstow that he will almost certainly follow the advice of security adviser Reg Dickason.

The announcements came after limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan’s confirmation he will decide at the end of next week.

England have put off naming their 50-over and Test squads back, until September 13, reportedly to give management extra time to persuade Morgan it will be safe to travel.

It was confirmed nine days ago that the tour will go ahead – after Dickason’s fact-finding mission to Bangladesh concluded security levels are satisfactory, despite a terrorist attack in Dhaka in July which claimed 29 lives.

All-rounder Moeen, a veteran of several trips to Bangladesh, had made up his mind to go before Dickason spoke to the players.

“If selected, I’ll definitely go,” he said in a press conference in Cardiff, where England will seek to finish the Royal London Series today by completing a first ever 5-0 whitewash of any opposition on home soil.

“I’m pretty happy with everything and really looking forward to it. Everyone’s different and has their own view on things.”
