- ANGLING

THE Swannay Ace is an Orkney pattern, best fished on a Di7 line. But this attractor will work well just about anywhere, especially for browns.

The hook is a size 10 Kamasan B175 and the tying thread is black UTC 70. The body is silver tinsel, ribbed with Gutterman’s black tinsel.

The wing is black marabou tips and the pattern is completed with jungle cock cheeks.

AT Swanswater near Stirling, the fish were being found just two feet down, chasing the likes of the Hot-head Damsel, Cat’s Whisker, Dancer, Cormorant, Buzzer and the Diawl Bach.

There were some cracking specimens landed, with Willie Nyguist from Stirling including a 7lb 12oz rainbow in his haul of four for 15lb 12oz.

Danny Doherty from Denny hooked five 5 for 17lb, including a 7lb rainbow.

Paisley’s Andy Tervit took a 6lb rainbow and Martin Stewart from Glasgow caught a lovely 4lb 4oz tiger trout.

THE best fishing at Forbes of Kingennie near Broughty Ferry has been early morning or late evening.

Main man on the Boathouse Pool was John Crowther, who released 17 fish in just over an hour.

Mr. Connell released 16 fish and Messrs. Leslie and Steven both returned 14 fish each.

Mr. Williams took two rainbows for a total of 8lb, with the bigger fish weighing in at 6lbs.

Nearly all the best catches have been taken on Buzzers or dry flies.
