Milne’s late winner keeps lead at five

-

PETER MACDONALD netted a secondhalf winner as Clyde leapfrogged Arbroath to continue their bright start to the campaign.

An entertaining first half saw the Lichties twice come from behind but veteran striker MacDonald’s contribution proved decisive.

The Bully Wee were quickly out the blocks and were ahead when Scott Linton turned in the opener after just six minutes.

However, their advantage proved short-lived as the visitors responded through a well-taken effort from Josh Skelly.

Both sides were keen to get forward at every opportunity and more goals looked a certainty.

The next duly arrived when Arbroath failed to deal with Dylan Easton’s corner and Martin McNiff pounced to restore Clyde’s lead.

MacDonald had a shot saved by Robbie Mutch while Arbroath striker Steven Doris went close with an effort at the other end as play continued to flow from end to end.

The Gayfield men were level for a second time when Bobby Linn struck just before the break.

Chances were less frequent on the restart but the one that mattered was coolly converted by MacDonald midway through the second period.

BERWICK 2 ELGIN CITY 4

On half-time, Greg Hurst pulled a goal back when he slid the ball home.

Elgin’s third goal came in the 75th minute when sub Craig Gunn turned the ball into the net at the back post.

Hurst then gave Rangers more hope with his second in 79 minutes, forcing the ball over the line from close range.

Gunn then ran in his second and City’s fourth after 86 minutes.

The home side couldn’t hold their lead until the break and in added time, Gary Glen headed home.

STIRLING ALB 1 EDINBURGH CITY 1
