Easy ways to look younger

- By Emma Hayley Rinaldi

It’s easy to get stuck in a beauty rut, using the same make-up routine for years or even decades. But as we age our skin changes and so should your beauty routine. Our sister publication No.1 magazine looks at the products which can help.

No more off days

ONE good thing about getting older is that bad skin days tend to become a thing of the past, so you no longer need a heavy foundation. Dewy and youthful skin can be achieved with a light primer (this one from Smashbox is oil-based, so it’s hydrating too) or a BB cream, followed by a light or medium-coverage foundation.

Powder power

EYEBROWS tend to become sparse as we age, so defining your brows is an absolute must. For a more natural look, switch your eyebrow pencil for a powder. This option from Benefit includes a pigmented wax to shape the brow and powder to fill them in.

Match your blush

BLUSHER is a make-up bag essential, but it’s worth swapping your pink blusher for a more natural shade. To find the shade for you, a top tip is to pinch your cheeks and then try and match your natural blush.

Tip taupe

DITCH dark eyeshadows. Blacks and greys are draining on the skin, while taupe tones add warmth and signify youthful skin. This palette from Urban Decay might seem pricey but it will last you for at least a year – even if you use it most days. The same logic applies to lips – dark colours can make your lips look thinner, while mauves and pinks will make them seem fuller. Dab some gloss in the centre of your lips for extra volume.

Lush lashes

WIDE eyes signify youth but as we get older our eyes change shape and our lashes become a little sparse. Give yours a helping hand by investing in an eyelash curler – they open up the eyes and will get the most from your mascara. Use at the root of the lash and hold for 15 seconds – your peepers will look more awake in an instant.

Crease lightening

SWAP eye pencils for cream liners. An eye pencil tugs at the skin making it crease, while a cream liner will glide on and allow for more accurate application.
