LEAguE 1 RouNd-up

-

BOLTON climbed into the top two as Filipe Morais’s late goal secured a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Northampton at a rain-soaked Macron Stadium.

Michael Smith’s eighth goal of the season after 57 minutes – from a superb free-kick by ex-Wanderer, Matt Taylor – threatened to give the Cobblers a fourth successive victory.

And Taylor was involved again in Bolton’s controversial 75th-minute leveller when adjudged to have handled David Wheater’s header by referee Richard Clark.

Adam Le Fondre, earlier denied an equaliser by Adam Smith’s fine save, thumped home his fourth goal in three games to bring the teams level.

Keeper Smith came to Town’s rescue moments later, tipping over Darren Pratley’s header.

However, Bolton, scorer of eight goals in their previous two outings, weren’t to be denied a third successive victory.

Andrew Taylor, twice involved in the build-up, provided the assist with a fiercely driven cross and Morais slid in at the far post to register his first goal for the Trotters eight minutes from time.

There was time for even more controversy when John-Joe O’Toole’s goal was disallowed in the final minute of stoppage time for offside.

High-flying Fleetwood had to settle for a 0-0 draw with AFC Wimbledon as Uwe Rosler’s Town side failed to score for only the third time this term.

Wimbledon, Bury and Oldham are the only teams to have stopped Town scoring this term and it was an uninspiring clash at Highbury.

Ash Hunter was denied by Wombles keeper James Shea, while the visitors nearly snatched the points at the death as Andy Barcham just blasted over.
