Sinner Bain ends up as Forfar hero

-

The first half saw few chances created, with the best falling to Forfar’s Danny Denholm on the half-hour but he shot straight at Cammy MacKay.

At the other end, Brian Cameron forced a good save out of Forfar keeper Grant Adam, while Mark Nicolson was close with a 30-yarder.

The deadlock was broken by City just four minutes after the break.

Chris Dodd’s shot was deflected over for a corner and, when Archie Macphee swung in the flag-kick, centre-back Darryl McHardy rose at the back post to nod home.

Elgin chased a second goal and when striker Chris McLeish chased a long ball he seemed to be hauled to the deck by Jamie Bain – who had already been booked – but referee Graham Beaton waved play on.

Within two minutes, Bain was at the other end crossing the ball over for Lister to beat home keeper MacKay in the air and head home.

BERWICK 0 ARBROATH 2

THE opening exchanges were frantic, with Ryan McCord shooting wide for Arbroath.

Greg Rutherford then slipped the ball through for Darren Lavery to run on to but visiting keeper Ricky Gomes was quickly off his line and smothered the danger.

At the other end, Lee Hamilton had to make two covering tackles in quick succession.

In 37 minutes, Arbroath were awarded a penalty when Kevin McKinlay fouled Bobby Linn, and Steven Doris sent Sean Brennan the wrong way from the spot.

At the start of the second half, there was a lengthy delay when Lee Hamilton received medical treatment after landing awkwardly. The full-back was down for over eight minutes before being stretched off, being replaced by Jonny Fairbairn. It was later revealed he had sustained a possible neck injury and was taken by ambulance to hospital.

On the resumption, Linn’s shot was saved by Brennan.

In the second minute of time added, Arbroath made the game safe with a second goal, Martin Scott running on to slide the ball under the advancing Brennan.

STIRLING ALBION 1 ANNAN 0

ROSS KAVANAGH came close for Stirling just before the break when he was denied by keeper Blair Currie.

On-loan Rangers winger Josh Jeffries then rattled the bar from 25 yards early in the second half.

Rabin Omar wasted a great chance for Annan when his shot was saved.

Darren Smith struck soon after when he swept home a cross from Callum Morrison.

A last-minute save from Chris Smith kept out a Peter Weatherson volley.

CLYDE 3 EDINBURGH CITY 1

CITY led when Marc Laird sent Lewis Allan through and the youngster stayed calm to slot home from 20 yards.

Clyde levelled early in the second half when Matty Flynn volleyed past Andrew Stobie.

Six minutes later, David Gormley whipped the ball across goal for Peter MacDonald to head in from a foot out.

Co-manager MacDonald sealed the win 13 minutes from time when he drilled in after a clever Scott Ferguson pass had sent him clear.

COWDENBEATH 0 MONTROSE 2

MONTROSE started well and Chris Templeman’s free-kick was charged down by the home wall.

The visitors grabbed the lead on the half-hour when Michael Bolochoweckyj fired a low shot past Jamie Sneddon.

Two minutes from the break, the hosts almost levelled when Calum MacDonald fired the ball past his own post.

The key second goal came with 13 minutes left when a right-wing cross was perfect for Matty Smith to turn the ball into the net from seven yards out.
