ANGLING

The Machair Claret is tied on a size 8-12 Kamasan B175 hook, using black thread. The tail is a few fibres from the flank feather of a French partridge.

The body is claret seal’s fur, palmered with one claret and one black cock hackle, wound together and ribbed with oval gold. Finish with a head hackle of black hen.

Dries, Buzzers and various lures have been taking plenty of fish – some of them hefty specimens – off the top or just under at the Orchill Trout Fishery, near Braco.

James Gunn from Perth caught a fine 8lb rainbow, followed by a beautiful blue trout of 8lb on Buzzers. Allan Mitchell (Stirling) took three fish for 11lb 8oz – best 6lb 8oz – on a Yellow Owl.

The Lake of Menteith continues to fish well with the top-fishing areas lately being Lochend, Hotel Bay and Shear Point.

Boats are still available for the Kirk and School Fundraiser on Sunday, November 5. Boats are out from 11am until about 4pm, followed by a BBQ, refreshments, raffle and a song or two.

It’s a great day with the cost of a two-man boat being £45, bookable through the fishery.
