Expert back to Orkney for chapel
An art restoration expert has returned to Orkney to resume work on wartime paintings adorning the walls of the Italian Chapel.
Antonella Papa, from Rome, visits the islands regularly and was moved by the story of the chapel.
She started repair work on the interior design back in 2015 – but now she hopes to continue preserving the artwork at one of the islands’ most popular tourist attractions.
Antonella, who has worked at the Vatican over her 30-year career, said it was important to make sure the paintings stayed authentic to the originals.
The chapel’s frescos were painted by Italian prisoner-of-war Domenico Chiocchetti during World War Two.
