It’s just a few minutes’ drive from Bearsden and Milngavie, sitting beside a Dobbie’s garden centre. You really need a car if you are planning to pop in for a visit.

First impressions

There was a warm welcome and we were told to sit at whatever table took our fancy – which was a bit of a surprise as it was Friday evening and we’d booked ahead expecting a full house. Part of a bigger restaurant group, it’s been built with a country pub feel of low beams and some flagstone floors.

service

A bit of a mixed bag. Both waitresses were really friendly, but a check-in on how the food was would have been appreciated. And we had to chase them for the bill. All the expected pub fare of steaks, pies, burgers, pizzas, salads, sandwiches.

taste

The Hunter’s chicken came with a nice slice of gammon and the wagyu burger – a couple of pounds more than the standard one – was really rich and meaty in its brioche bun.

price

Just over £50 for a couple of mains with a flatbread side, two desserts and two rounds of drinks. It busied up a little but was pretty quiet overall, so good to catch up for a chat but not really remarkable for the atmosphere. The puddings were really lovely, especially the chocolate orange tart which came with a little jug of clotted cream.

They’re upstairs but there’s an easy-access one on the ground level.
