Slap bang in Glasgow’s city centre just down the road from its sister restaurants Chaakoo Bombay Café and Topolabamba.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

It’s light and bright inside with a weathered yet classy Greek taverna feel.

SERVICE

Hard to fault as the staff were attentive, relaxed and friendly and the food came out very quickly. Promising a taste of Turkey, Morocco, Lebanon, Persia and Greece, the evening menu offers a variety of small mezze plates, pides (Turkish pizzas), sides and desserts. The wide drinks menu includes wine and beers from Greece and Turkey, raki, ouzo and popular Greek soft drink Epsa. The gyros and kebabs weren’t available after 4pm though, which was a bit disappointing.

TASTE

The food was fast, fresh and very tasty. We decided on two mezze plates each, a thin and crispy mince lamb pide to share and a side of moreish Greek skinny fries sprinkled with salt and oregano. The keftedes (meatballs) were delicious served with a light tzatziki and the dolmades – vine leaves stuffed with rice, aubergine and courgette – had a lovely flavour but were on the small side. The baklava, small diamonds of pastry, nuts and honey, was flaky, rich and sweet. A highlight was the delicious pistachio ice cream.

PRICE

Fairly standard for tapas in Glasgow. Individual mezzes and pides cost between £5-8. Kebabs and gyros varied from £8-12. Even midweek, it’s fairly busy and lively with an easy, laid-back vibe. Being offered a complimentary shot of limoncello at the end of the meal was a nice surprise.

TOILETS

Clean and tidy.
