Prof backing for Ponsati
The head of St Andrews University has told of how she protected one of her employees from extradition.
Professor Sally Mapstone said she was determined not to let down Clara Ponsati, head of the university’s economics department, when she was facing a trial in Spain on charges of violent rebellion
Ms Ponsati was a minister in the Catalan Government when it organised an independence referendum that Spanish authorities say was illegal.
Professor Mapstone said Ms Ponsati was “a muchvalued employee” and said she was “deeply concerned” by the motives of the Spanish government in targeting her.
