£25 STAR LETTER

-

I enjoyed the Honest Truth feature in which 22 Squadron leader Martin Pert told of flying as one of the famous Red Arrows.

In the early 1980s, as a member of Scottish Aero Club, at Scone Airfield on a quiet Saturday morning, I was alone in our clubroom when the phone rang.

It was someone from RAF Leuchars to say the Red Arrows would be flying over the airfield.

As our control tower was unmanned, I was asked about any activity. All was quiet.

Ten minutes later the Reds appeared over the hills. I ran outside, nobody but myself there, and, passing over, they put on the smoke.

I was chuffed! It was their way of saying thanks.
