Burka ban: First fine

A woman wearing a face veil has become the first person in Denmark to be fined for violating the country’s new “burka ban”.

It was reported yesterday that police were called to a shopping centre to confront a 28-year-old woman wearing a niqab, which just leaves the eyes exposed.

The woman was fined £120 and told to either remove the veil or leave the centre.

Since last week, Denmark’s much-debated “burka ban” has provoked protests and criticism.
