Stricken star still can’t face the mirror
Richard Bacon says he can’t bear to look in the mirror after his dramatic weight loss following a serious health scare.
The broadcaster was placed in a nine-day induced coma after contracting a near-fatal lung infection last month.
The 42-year-old former Blue Peter presenter had been taken ill on a transatlantic flight on July 5.
“I don’t like to look at my body in the mirror at the moment,” he said. “It is so gaunt and emaciated.
“I look like a bloke who has been in a coma for a couple of weeks, which is how I should look, but it’s not how I want to look.
“And this is a year when I have done so much gym work.”
Father-of-two Richard said that when he fully recovers he intends to live life to the full.
“I’ll effect some positive changes,” he said. “I’ll be more focussed than I have been before.
“I’ll be a better employee – more creative – and a better dad.
“I’ve learned from these experiences that it is all right to get knocked down.
“It’s all right, as long as it doesn’t kill you.
“You just get back up, be better and see what happens next.”
He added: “I always want some sort of positive change – something positive to come out of adversity.”
