Alex Nicholls netted twice on his debut for Crewe who kicked off the season with a 6- 0 win over Morecambe.

Charlie Kirk has put the home side ahead, before Nicholls’ brace, but there was still time for further goals with James Jones grabbing a brace and Chris Porter netting once.

The Matt Taylor era at Exeter City got off to a superb start as the Devon side beat Carlisle United 3- 1 in style at St James Park. Nicky Law and Jonathan Forte put the home side into a 2- 0 lead which was halved when Richie Bennett struck. Tristan Abrahams made sure of the win in injury-time.

Paul Tisdale made a flying start in charge of MK Dons as his side earned a narrow 2- 1 win at Oldham.

The Dons raced into an early lead via Kieran Agard’s penalty, before Ryan Harley doubled their advantage after 22 minutes. Dan Gardner gave Oldham hope of earning a point just before half-time, but they couldn’t find a second.
