There’s always a big game around the corner

-

Aberdeen – you always have another big game round the corner.

“We’re obviously disappointed with h ow Thursday ended, but the boys will be ready to go again.

“We’ve always gone toe- totoe with Rangers.

“Going to Ibrox the season before last, and beating them there for the first time in 20 years was a great achievement for ourselves.

“And us finishing second last season showed we were the better team over the course of the season.

“We’ve just got to show it against them and there’s no better opportunity than Sunday.”

Mcginn returned to Aberdeen in January after a short spell in South Korea.

Games like today’s, he insists, are a big part of what drew him back for a second spell at Pittodrie.

“When you’re at Aberdeen, you enjoy playing against Rangers and Celtic, the big games,” said Mcginn.

“Even when we’re on the road, we always bring a great support so there’s always a good atmosphere.

“The way Pittodrie was last week against Burnley was one of the best atmospheres I’ve played in.

“On S u n d a y, yo u’ve obviously got the Steven Gerrard factor, Rangers being Rangers, how big a game it is, how big rivals we are.

“So it’s going to be an unbelievable atmosphere and we players want to be part of it.”

The Dons have now been Celtic’s nearest challengers in the last four Premiership s e a s o n s, a n d G e r ra rd is determined to bring that run to an end.

He has financial resources at his disposal that Aberdeen gaffer Derek Mcinnes can only dream about.

But the Dons still believe they can go toe-to-toe with the Light Blues over the course of a season and emerge victorious.

Mcginn said: “The manager has been outstanding in keeping the team evolving every summer over the last three or four years, and that’s definitely shown in our results and league finishes.

“I don’t see why we can’t do it again. We ’ v e been questioned, every year, and we’ve always proven that we were the second- best team in Scotland.

“Rangers have a new manager and new players, and I’m sure the players there are still gelling together.

“But we’ve got a few new players as well, so we’ll concentrate on ourselves and not worry about other teams.

“We’ve just got to make sure Rangers are in a tough game on Sunday, and after the disappointment of Thursday night in Bur nley, there’s probably no better game in which to bounce back.
