MSP: We must end this official secrecy
The role of Nicola Sturgeon’s advisers in answering freedom of information requests has been criticised.
Earlier this year, Scotland’s information commissioner Daren Fitzhenry said journalists and political researchers faced an “additional layer of clearance” for their requests and said that should end.
The Scottish Government introduced a new action plan but Labour has criticised this as it still involves advisers and ministers having a role in identifying the more “sensitive” requests.
Scottish Labour’s parliamentary business manager, Neil Findlay MSP, said: “Instead of stopping politicians and taxpayer funded spin doctors interfering in journalists requests they have institutionalised it.”
