Great memories from days of steam trains

The Sunday Post (Dundee) - - OPINION -

Viewing the picture of the iconic Flying Scotsman in The Sunday Post, October 7, I cherish the memories of those great days of steam.

Not just watching famous names pass on main lines, but, for us youngsters, it was watching the unnamed goods locos at our local station.

It wasn’t so much seeing The Flying Scotsman or the local goods train that excited us, it was the Black 5 Workhorse.

On many lines we were allowed on the footplate. The lovely aroma of hot steam and grease, and on a winter night the glow from the firebox against the stars.

Lovely memories of childhood days.

They passed so quickly.
