Woman injured in suspected acid attack

-

A woman has had her face severely burned after a man threw “acid” at her.

The 37-year-old woman answered the door in Edinburgh when she was attacked with a corrosive substance.

She is in hospital with serious burns to her face and neck following the assault on Friday night, which police say was targeted.

A man approached the house on Captains Road in the southeast of the city around 8.40pm, and when the woman answered the door he threw the substance in her face.

Dressed in dark clothes and with his face covered, the suspect has been described as around 5ft 11in, in his early 20s with a slim build.

He was wearing a grey hooded top which was pulled up, a dark tracksuit, dark gloves and dark trainers with reflective panels on them.

Detective Inspector Stevie Rosie said: “We are still working to establish the motive surrounding this attack.

“However, we believe this to be a targeted attack.

“Police are supporting the victim, who has sustained some very serious injuries to her face and neck.

“Anyone who recognises the attacker, or who has any other information relevant to this investigation should contact police immediately.”
