Flag­ship store shuts

The House of Fraser depart­ment store in Ed­in­burgh closed its doors yes­ter­day af­ter more than six decades in op­er­a­tion.

The out­let, at the west end of Princes Street, was ini­tially due to close in Septem­ber.

It has been at the site since 1953, when House of Fraser ac­quired Binn’s depart­ment store.

Mil­lion­aire busi­ness­man Mike Ash­ley paid

£90 mil­lion for 58 of the chain’s stores in Au­gust af­ter the brand col­lapsed into ad­min­is­tra­tion.
