Sally: Our dad rarely smacked
Broadcaster and writer Sally Magnusson has revealed that her father only ever smacked her twice during her childhood.
The first time she was disciplined, the late Magnus Magnusson, a journalist, writer and host of Mastermind, was translating Icelandic sagas and threeyear-old Sally had scribbled on one of his Icelandic books.
She recalled with a fond giggle, ‘Oh he was really mad at me.’
Sally also remembers family holidays in Iceland with her father who took her to some of the sites where these sagas had taken place.
She said: “He made the stories live and breathe. It’s one of my most keen memories of my father. It was a wonderful time.”
