Miller stresses positives after St Mirren draw

- By Sean Hamilton sport@sundaypost.com

Kenny Miller last night insisted there is light at the end of the tunnel for basement boys Dundee.

Miller notched his first goal for the Dee as they shared the spoils with fellow strugglers St Mirren.

It wasn’t the result anyone in Dark Blue wanted.

But Mi l l e r insists Dundee’s performance proved they are on the right track under Jim Mcintyre.

“If we play like that I can see a win coming,” said the veteran striker.

“That’s the kind of performance we’ve been working for in the last few weeks.

“It’s the performance that the manager has been demanding in training.

“We’re hoping that we’re starting to see the benefits of the work we’ve been putting in.

“If we get to those levels every week then I think we’ll start winning a lot more games.

“There haven’t been radical changes but every manager has got their own way of working.

“You can see by the way we’re playing – we’re 4- 4- 2, everybody knows their jobs.

“There’s a lot of basic stuff getting put in, set- plays, organisation, and the kinds of passes that are going to be a va i l a b l e to g i ve us opportunities.

“It’s quite simple stuff, but it’s there to see.”

The performance of his young strike partner, Benjamin Kallman, was another pleasing factor for Miller.

But the young Finn wasn’t the only Dark Blue he singled out for praise.

“I thought Benjamin was excellent today,” said Miller.

“The ball he puts in for the goal was great.

“It’s about decisions that can make a big, big difference in winning a game of football.

“It’s the wee details that can make all the difference.

“So those are the things we need to work on, but I thought he was excellent, and so was Nathan Ralph, who was superb.”

St Mirren boss Oran Kearney felt the result made for a “good day”.

But he was adamant this his side should have had a second penalty in the second half.

“For about 30 minutes after we scored we got the wrong re a c t i o n and Dundee got the reaction I wanted from us,” said Kearney.

“I have watched it and we should have had another penalty.

“Kyle Magennis clips the ball in, it comes back across and Danny Mullen is between the full- back and goal six yards out.

When the full- back swings, contact is made and he doesn’t touch the ball.

“Any contact that close and it goes in. It is one of those ones that would have turned a good day into a really good day.”
