The Silver line

-

The Silver Line was launched five years ago with a fiveyear grant from The Big Lottery Fund. It now has to rely on the generosity of the public to keep going.

So far the charity has managed to answer three in four of the calls it receives. But it needs more help to continue and to boost that number.

It is the only national service for lonely older people that is there 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

It offers a 24/7 helpline, weekly friendship calls by trained volunteers (many of whom are older people themselves), conference calls (Silver Circles) and Silver Letters.

It also provides hampers to older people at Christmas who will not receive any other present and sends Christmas cards.

The charity has taken over two million calls since its launch.

The Silver Line is a free and confidential and can be contacted on 0800 4 70 80 90.
