Any­one who com­mutes to work by car will know that the roads are in­creas­ingly busy.

And, ac­cord­ingly, mo­tor in­sur­ance pay­outs have reached record lev­els this year, with more than £23 mil­lion typ­i­cally be­ing paid ev­ery day, ac­cord­ing to fig­ures from the As­so­ci­a­tion of Bri­tish In­sur­ers.

In the first nine months of 2018, a to­tal of £6.4 bil­lion was paid out to pri­vate mo­torists and in com­pen­sa­tion to crash vic­tims.
