Veteran dies after assault

A war hero aged 98 who was battered by thieves for his £10 TV has died.

Peter Gouldstone was attacked last month while sleeping in his bed just days before Remembrance commemorations.

Police have confirmed he died yesterday in hospital after suffering from a head injury and extensive bruising to his body.

The retired GPO worker was punched in the eye, dragged from his bed and battered during the assault at his home in North London.
